Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long will I be in the hospital after surgery?

A. In most cases you will be in the hospital for one to three days after surgery.

Q. Will my activity be restricted after surgery?

A. Your doctor will ask you to restrict your vigorous activity after surgery until healing has taken place. You will be encouraged to stand and walk soon after surgery; however, you should refrain from over-active lifting, bending and twisting until your doctor tells you to resume those activities.

Q. Will the device prevent me from having a CT scan or MRI scan?

A. No. The CHARITÉ® Artificial Disc device should not interfere with obtaining MRI or CT scans.

Q. Have the materials in the CHARITÉ® Artificial Disc been used in the human body before?

A. Yes. The CHARITÉ® Artificial Disc device utilizes the same materials - cobalt chromium alloy and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene - that have been used for over 30 years in common total joint replacements like artificial hips and knees.
